Christopher Northam, founder and inventor of the new action sport Extreme Skim™ completely embodies the essence of action sports. His drive, ambition, “thinking-out-of-the-box”, pushing the limits, breaking new boundaries, creativity, and passion are the key ingredients that ultimately culminated in the birth of SKIM X™ and the sport of Extreme Skim™.

Having grown up competing at the recreational and competitive level in board, ski, and motocross, Christopher established deep core roots in the action sports industry. With his two sons, Chris Jr. and Codi sharing his love of action sports, Christopher invested much time over the years helping develop those seeds of desire. They did board and ski action sports, BMX, motocross, and eventually, the two Christophers became business partners in the action sports industry in So Cal.

In August 2005, they moved to the Sacramento area with the purpose of moving closer to Codi and getting back to their “roots” in board & ski sports. Having Lake Tahoe, an abundance of rivers and lakes and the West Coast close by, presented the perfect environment & opportunity to consistently participate in board & ski action sports again.

For Christopher, it had been 12 years since he had been on the snow. In January 2007, skiing & boarding with his two sons at a winter resort in Lake Tahoe, CA, Christopher was amazed to see how the sport of freeskiing & snowboarding had evolved and progressed. Standing at the top of the half-pipe and watching athletes perform tricks that a decade before would get a person kicked off the mountain got Christopher’s attention and set the wheels of thought in motion. Seeing how the sport of freeskiing and snowboarding had progressed in park & pipe, he knew he had to figure out a way to collapse his time-frame on learning to do the tricks the athletes were now performing. After all…40’s the new 30 right?!!!

After a few days contemplating various thoughts & ideas and researching to find answers to some key questions, Christopher knew deep down he was on to “something”. Jolted out of a sound sleep, in the wee hours of the morning, an idea came to mind. He thought of creating a hydroplane environment over any surface, specifically action sports environments where tricks could be performed with board and skis specifically made for this new sport of Extreme Skim™. With this initial idea, the flood gate of possibilities was broken and he was flooded with compounding thoughts and ideas on how this would work.

Eager to find out if there was any validity to the ideas, Christopher and Chris Jr. woke up early the next morning and went to the backyard and did some calculations for the first prototype quarterpipe ramp. He also got on the computer and started searching for anything he could find on hydroplaning. This searching continued with professionals & government agencies. All his searching led him to the realization that his idea was unique and worth investing in!

Filing intellectual property documents, and backing his dream & vision with unequaled passion, desire, and commitment, Christopher and Chris Jr. started working on his invention of Extreme Skim™! The need to prove the sport brought Christopher, Chris Jr., Codi and some close friends together to build the first Extreme Skim ™ prototype ramp. The athletes that flocked to try the new sport were all of the same mind…they wanted to get an appointment with the “DR”! The result was that the “proof of concept” happened in the back-yard on the “DR”!

With much inspiration and excitement, Christopher put together a team of people and began working diligently to make the vision & dream of SKIM X™ become a reality. This reality is his global business model that will see SKIM X™ Parks built around the world, where the sport of Extreme Skim™ will be enjoyed by many! The future of this reality begins with our first SKIM X Park located in Roseville, CA, USA.
